  1. 30 Days of Night

  2. Camera • Close ups are constantly being used, through these a sense of intrigue is brought upon the audience as they are unaware of where some of the objects have come from and who’s they are. • An extreme close up is used on a picture of a husky, showing the husky’s eye, it is through this close proximity that we as an audience feel fearful and vulnerable because the creature is so powerful, this could be being used to try and get the audience to feel the same as the characters in the film as they too feel fearful and vulnerable to the killers. • There is a close up used on an X-ray of a mouth, it is through this picture that connotations begin to arise of something being out of the ordinary and painful this is shown through the fact that it is an x-ray and within the x-ray you are able to see a disfigured nose. • A close up shot is used to show a hand on the gravel ground, this highlights the destructive, horrific nature of the killer/killers and how they are savage creatures.

  3. Sound • Uncomplimentary notes are played together for quiet a long period of time, it is through this unpleasant sound that a sense of unease is brought upon the audience. • A deep beat is used when the title is displayed on screen this suggests that not only is it important as the title but also as it is a key aspect of the film. • High pitches are used throughout the title sequence it is through this that a sense of pain and torcher is suggested, letting the audience come closer to the feelings and thoughts of the town people in the film. • The music continues throughout the whole of the title sequence stopping not once, this highlights how in the film there is no stop to the trauma and that they have no rest from panic and worry.

  4. Editing • It fades from icicles to a distorted image of a face with blood approaching it this highlights how the nature of the film is violent and possibly out of the ordinary. • As it changes to a different picture on screen it blurs, it is through this that it creates a sense of mystery as you are unable to see the picture clearly, this could be linked with the people in the pictures and how they are unaware as to why they are being attacked. • The use of the dark lighting highlights how there doesn’t seem to be any escape for what is about to happen to the people and that their end has come. • Some of the pictures on screen are faded black before other pictures are seen, this creates a sense of unawareness of what is going on, because the pictures do not seem to flow this could be representative of the people as the people are unaware of what is happening and they cant seem to put the pieces together to work things out. So their minds are just as broken as the fragmented and separate pictures.

  5. Mise en scene • The use of the icicles highlights how the setting is most probably in a cold place. Also this could be being used as a representative of the killer/killers being cold blooded and heartless. • Torn pictures are constantly shown this suggests that something is not as it should be and that destruction has occurred. • These is a picture of lots of people shown in the title sequence this highlights how widespread the affects are and that they are not just aimed at one person. • Many pictures of children are shown this could highlight how the killer/killers seem to have no problem with harming children, giving the killer an almost inhumane nature because they don’t seem to think hurting children is a problem. • The bloody tooth trapped in the ice has connotations of vampires and there bloody nature. Again the use of ice highlights how the setting is in a cold place. The tooth stuck in the ice could be a representative of the people who live in the town and how they are trapped there and have no escape from the menace. • The fact that as the further you go along in the sequence the more people seem to have black eyes, this suggests that what happens in the film is a contagious thing and it is spread quickly, once again highlighting how an escape for the people seems unlikely.

  6. Typography and Information • The beginning of the title sequence shows the name of the film, it is an unclean type as someone has written it in a hurry or panic suggesting how the film is not one of a relaxing nature. • The order of information is: • Title of the Film • Director • Screenplay • Producer • Executive Producers • Co-Producres
