Dr. Herbert N. Richardson School Jump Rope For Heart February 7, 2014 Kiosk Show by Tara van den Akker
On Friday, February 7, 2014, the Dr. Herbert N. Richardson 21st Century Elementary School in Perth Amboy, NJ held two events designed by the American Heart Association to raise awareness for Heart Health. Heather Leopardo from the American Heart Association is our liaison and was here for part of the festivities. The events were spearheaded through Acting Principal Karen Moffatt, Melissa Paltjon, Joanne Spicuzzo, and the school Physical Education Staff. The school took part in Go Red for Women. Students wore red tops in support, and staff donated money to wear Red and Jeans for the day. The school raised $ 410 from this event. The staff also had healthy snacks made available to them.3rd and 4th grade students in the school fundraised to take part in Jump Rope for Heart, an event we have been doing for over 7 years. Students formed relay style teams and took turns jumping rope over a 45 minute period. The students fundraising totals are still being tallied. Friday Afternoon, the whole student body came together and formed a Heart to symbolize their commitment to be heart healthy and help people with heart disease get help. The schools’ paraprofessional team worked to decorate the school for the event. A wonderful time was had by all!
