  4. GAVC Enrollment Figures Of the 203 students enrolled in 2009-2010, 38 are from area schools, and 165 are Galesburg High School students.

  5. Automotive Technology Program • Course covers theory and operation of the mechanical, electrical, and computer systems of engines. This includes overhaul, general repair, and preventative maintenance. • Students learn the proper use of manuals, tools, and test equipment found in modern automotive shops.

Automotive Technology— Technical Skill Acquisition & Application • Automotive Technology Video • Computers are used for technical vehicle information such as correct tool use, specifications and instructions. • “High-tech” equipment is used to properly diagnose and repair today’s modern vehicle. • The internet is used for research and procurement of correct parts. • Video demonstrations further reinforce what is learned.

Automotive Technology — Technical Skill Acquisition & Application • High tech scanners are used to communicate with the on board computers. • Chassis, engine, transmission dynamometers and five gas exhaust analyzers indicate engine efficiency and emission levels. • Special software studies the effects of component change on engine performance and economy.

  9. Childcare & Guidance Program Students gain work experience with children in lab settings at Lincoln Education Center. Food Service Management Program—Career Options The course uses the curriculum of the Illinois Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation. • Executive Chef • Server • Event Planner • Pastry Chef • Nutritionist • Kitchen Manager • Catering Director *Bonus* Students can test for Food Sanitation credential

Drafting & CAD Program—Career Options • Drafter • Designer • Contractor • Architect • Design Draftsperson • Technical Illustrator • Engineering Assistant This course uses the latest computer-aided design software. The class is designed for students pursuing careers in engineering, and mechanical or architectural drafting. *Bonus* Successful completion articulates with programs at Carl Sandburg College.

  12. Automotive Technology— Technical Skill Acquisition & Application GREEN TECHNOLOGY • Students design a green technology home. Students research what a green home is and implement examples of green technologies that will result in economic or environmental advantages into their home. • Students design cardboard chairs. Students design a chair made from recycled cardboard that is strong enough to support the weight of a person.

Health Occupations Program Provides a solid foundation for work in the healthcare field. 80 hours of theory and 40 hours of clinical class time are taken in preparation for the state licensure examination. • Registered Nurse • Geriatric Aide • Medical Assistant • Respiratory Technician • Emergency Medicine • Radiology Technician *Bonus* Program is state certified. Students can test to receive a nursing assistant certificate at the end of the class.

  14. Law Enforcement Program Course covers the operations, objectives, and basic purpose of criminal justice agencies. • Fish and Game Warden • Police Officer • Corrections Officer • Detective • Border Guard

  15. Law Enforcement Program-Technical Skill Acquisition & Application • Crime lab and crime scene simulation • Fingerprinting classification, blood splatter analysis with simulated bloods • Hair and fiber analysis • Specialty DVDs for decision making

  16. Welding Program—College Credit and Career Options Class is held at the Center for Manufacturing Excellence. Designed for students planning careers in either production or job shop industrial welding.   17. Welding Program— Technical Skill Acquisition & Application • In the lab setting, students investigate the inner workings of the machines and see how the development of the microprocessor has reduced size, power consumption, and enhanced usability as compared to older welding machines. • The Welding program also owns a welding simulator for students’ use SimWelder™ augments traditional training methods by providing significantly more passes to students and provides the instructor with objective feedback. The student enters an interactive virtual environment that merges computer generated data with physical props.

  18. Networking Technology Program—College Credit and Career Options Class is based on principles and practices of designing, building, and maintaining computer networks. Prepares students to test for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credential. This course consists of the following Carl Sandburg College courses: • CIS 160 Introduction to Internetworking 3 sem. hrs • CIS 161 Introduction to Internetworking Op. Sys. 3 sem. hrs • CIS 162 Introduction to Local Area Networks 3 sem. hrs • CIS 163 Introduction to Wide Area Networks 3 sem. hrs

Networking Technology Program • The program has a fully equipped lab that allows students hands on experience with equipment such as routers, switches, access points and cable testers.  • Sophisticated simulation software allows students to practice their lab assignments anywhere they have internet access.

  22. GAVC Graduates at Work in our Community Several GAVC Automotive Program graduates are pictured. They are employed by Louis Lakis car dealership. GAVC Law Enforcement Program graduate and GPD police officer Donovin Godsil addresses the current class.
