6. JehangirRatanjiDadabhoy Tata (29 July 1904 – 29 November 1993) was a pioneer aviator and important businessman of India. He was awarded India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1992 and the Legion of Honour from the French government in 1954. • Early life and education • J. R. D. Tata was born in Paris, France, the second child of Parsi father RatanjiDadabhoy Tata and his French wife, Suzanne "Sooni" Brière. His father was a first cousin of Jamsetji Tata, a pioneer industrialist in India. As his mother was French, he spent much of his childhood in France and as a result, French was his first language. Tata also attended the French Foreign Legion. He attended the Cathedral and John Connon School, Bombay (now Mumbai).

7. BiographyJ. R. D. Tata was inspired early by aviation pioneer Louis Blériot, and took to flying. On February 10, 1929 Tata obtained the first pilot licence issued in India. He later came to be known as the father of Indian civil aviation. He founded India's first commercial airline, 'Tata Airlines', in 1932, which in 1946 became Air India, now India's national airline.He joined Tata & Sons as an unpaid apprentice in 1925. In 1938, at the age of 34, JRD was elected Chairman of Tata & Sons making him the head of the largest industrial group in India. For decades, he directed the huge Tata Group of companies, with major interests in Steel, Engineering, Power, Chemicals and Hospitality. He was famous for succeeding in business while maintaining high ethical standards - refusing to bribe politicians or use the black market.Under his chairmanship, the assets of the Tata Group grew from US$100 million to over US$5 billion. He started with 14 enterprises under his leadership and half a century later on July 26, 1988, when he left, Tata & Sons was a conglomerate of 95 enterprises which they either started or in which they had controlling interest.

8. He was the trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust from its inception in 1932 for over half a century. Under his guidance, this Trust established Asia's first cancer hospital, the Tata Memorial Center for Cancer, Research and Treatment, in Bombay in 1941. It also founded the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, 1936), the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR, 1945), and the National Center for Performing Arts.In 1945, he founded Tata Motors. In 1948, JRD Tata launched Air India International as India's first international airline. In 1953, the Indian Government appointed Babu as Chairman of Air-India and a director on the Board of Indian Airlines - a position he retained for 25 years. For his crowning achievements in aviation, he was bestowed with the title of Honorary Air Commodore of India.In 1956, he initiated a program of closer 'employee association with management' to give workers a stronger voice in the affairs of the company. He firmly believed in employee welfare and espoused the principles of an eight-hour working day, free medical aid, workers' provident scheme, and workmen's accident compensation schemes, which were later, adopted as statutory requirements in India. In 1968, he founded Tata Consultancy Services. In 1979, Tata Steel instituted a new practice: a worker being deemed to be "at work" from the moment he leaves home for work till he returns home from work. This made the company financially liable to the worker for any mishap on the way to and from work. In 1987, he founded Titan Industries.

He was instrumental behind the rapid growth of the Kirloskar Group.He was the son of LaxmanraoKirloskar, who established the Kirloskar Group and the township of Kirloskarwadi. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.. He was also the among the batch of first Indians to graduate from MIT.The others being ChintalapatiSatyaNarayanaRaju(Former Chief Engineer[THERMAL]Central Water Power Commission)of Visakhapatnam Dist under the Madras Presidency(Present Andhra Pradesh).[citation needed]Shantanurao was a global thinker and an enterprising person who had the courage and the confidence in the potential of his own country even in the pre-independence era. He often said, "Economic preparedness is as vital as military preparedness." He always looked at India as a part of the rest of the world and worked towards making India globally competitive.

And on Wednesday, the Kirloskarvadi industrial township from where that first branded iron plough came from, turned 100.

13. Conti…… • After the end of World War II, the Kirloskar Group grew rapidly under the leadership of S. L. Kirloskar. In 1946, he established Kirloskar Electric Company and Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited at Bangalore and Pune respectively. He is credited with developing the manufacture of diesel engine indigenously as an import substitute after India attained independence. He penned an autobiography under the title Cactus and Roses. • He created a business empire that enjoyed one of the highest growth rates in Indian history, a staggering 32,401% growth of assets from 1950-1991. Today, the Kirloskar Group is India's largest Engineering Conglomerate. • In May 2003, AtalBihari Vajpayee, the then Prime Minister of India, released a commemorative postage stamp marking Mr. S.L. Kirloskar's 100th anniversary.

15. Conti…… NagavaraRamaraoNarayana Murthy, better known as N. R. Narayana Murthy, is an Indian industrialist and software engineer. He and six other engineers founded Infosys in 1981. Mr. Murthy served as CEO from 1981 to 2002. From 2002 to 2011, he served as Chairman. In 2011, he became Chairman Emeritus. • Early life Born into a KannadaMadhwaBrahmin family in Mysore, Karnataka on August 20, 1946, Mr. Murthy graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, University of Mysore in 1967. He received his master's degree from IIT Kanpur in 1969.

16. Conti….. Career • Mr. Murthy's first job position was at IIM Ahmedabad, where he worked as the chief systems programmer. He developed a time-sharing system and designed and implemented a BASIC interpreter for ECIL (Electronics Corporation of India Limited) • After IIM Ahmedabad, he started a company named Softronics in 1976. When that company failed, he joined Patni Computer Systems in Pune. Mr. Murthy met his wife Sudha Murthy in Pune who was an engineer working at Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. Ltd. (Telco, now known as Tata Motors) at the time. • After settling down in Pune, Mr. Murthy founded Infosys in 1981 with an initial capital injection of Rs 10,000, which was invested by his wife Sudha Murthy. Murthy served as the CEO of Infosys for 21 years and was succeeded by co-founder NandanNilekani in 2002. At Infosys he articulated, designed and implemented the Global Delivery Model which has become the foundation for the huge success in IT services outsourcing from India. He also lead the company through several key decisions including its listing on the Indian stock exchange and on the NASDAQ. • He held the executive position of Chairman of the Board from 2002 to 2006, when he became the "non-executive" Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor. In August 2011, he retired completely from the company and taking the title Chairman Emeritus.

The unit also has sizing and weaving facility under one roof. This unit too produces domestic, Industrial and Export quality fabric. There is a wide range of available weaves namely Plain, Twill, Drill, Satin, Satin-stripes, Matt, Duck etc. Our reliability and high quality has earned us reputable Bombay-Dyeing as the largest buyer of the product line. With a man power of approx 400, the unit has provided generous employment opportunities in the area.

19. Conti… AGRO FARMING The group owns a sprawling 100 acres in Vadgaon village, Kolhapur. Fruits such as Mangoes, Pomegranate, Custard Apple, Guava, Papaya, Sapota, Amla and Coconuts are produced commercially. Cash crops like Sugarcane, Soyabean, Marigold, Rice, Wheat, Groundnuts, Turmeric, Jowar, and Pulses fetch splendid returns. The list of vegetables grown in the “Green House” is also vast. Seasonal veggies like Spinach, Ladies finger, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Tomatoes, Ginger, Cucumber, Brinjals, Gavari, Bitter gourd, Fenugreek, Coriander, The farm is equipped with latest drip-water technology, sprinkler system and a filtration plant.

20. WEAVING UNIT AT KHOTWADI, ICHALKARANJI, MAHARASHTRA.This weaving unit produces domestic, Industrial and Export quality fabric. This unit was a pioneer as “SULZER Air- Jet Looms (48) of 110” width were used for the first time in Kolhapur District. The “SWISS” make Looms have “TUCK IN” unit at both ends can give an output of 72” to 105” in width. The looms are equipped with a facility of Centre Leno too. The capacity of this unit is approximately 3 Lakh meters monthly in medium and fine counts.
