Products being integrated to create Home Base: Identity and Access Management (IAM) NC Cloud Identity andAccessManagement • Federated identity management to allow single sign-on for users This contract is still in processand the date of operation is still to be known. Home Base will have single-sign on in the Summer of 2013. Additionally, when the Identity and Access Management contract is signed, it will be easier to integrate a single sign-on with outside 3rd party solutions.
IIS Core Training: Who We are striving to maximize the adoption, the usage, and the impact the solution has on student achievement through a blended training program, consisting of: • Certification Training for LEA Staff @ 8 Regional Sites (app. 1,100 slots) • Online Technical Training for NCDPI Technical Support Staff and LEA Support Staff (app. 365 slots) • Tentative Dates: June 24 – July 3
Self-Paced Distance Learning • Self‐Paced Distance Learning, accessed via PowerSource, 365/24/7 • Large repository of 60+ courses for SIS and IIS, mostly 1 hour in length • Plus 100+ Mastery in Minutes tutorials for both SIS and IIS • Unlimited access! LEAs determine who can access the materials
Training Approach • Train-the-trainer model • Face-to-face Regional LEA trainings • Multiple LEA Webinar Offerings • Technical Support Webinar Offerings • Quick Reference Guides • Video Modules • User Manuals • Continued Support by DPI

Use CaseReference ID HB- 1 HomeBase Use Case #1 Title Instruction and Assessment Data Dashboards Description Ability for teachers and other education professionals to use classroom, benchmark and state summative assessment data to inform individualized student instruction decisions and other Key Performance Indicators. Data should be accessible through an integrated portal and presented in Dashboard format that allows for deeper analysis through active hotspots and provide recommended resources to improve student instruction.. Districts currently use instructional and assessment systems that are not integrated and cannot be viewed through a single portal. An educator who wants to review a student’s performance and assign recommended instructional resources will access the HomeBase (IIS) dashboard and view classroom and LEA assessment results as well as NC state testing results. The ability to drill down to the item level for further analysis will enable the teacher to analyze the type of questions on which the student performed well and those on which (s)he struggled, enabling the teacher to focus on test-taking strategies and critical thinking skills in addition to content. Significant dependencies include the ability to pull the assessment data from multiple data sources into the IIS at the item and standard level for analysis and to link the data with student demographic data in the Student Information System (SIS), and accountability data, discipline data to help personalize instruction. Narrative
Home Base Use Case #2 Use CaseReference ID HB- 2 Title Content Owned by LEAs/Charter Schools or Teachers LEAs/Charter Schools/Teachers will be able to load content in the resource bank and or share their resources (e.g., through the Home Base Resource Consortium). Curriculum/Instruction and Assessment Resources will be available through one single login and the alignment tags will help to link the resources. Description Districts/Charter Schools/Teachers are creating their own content for use in the classroom. Some content is housed in a content management system while others are housed in LMSs, on websites, in paper form, etc. In some cases the resources may not be tagged in a consistent manner and may not be easily searchable. Curriculum/instruction and assessment resources may not be in the same system. Gaining access to the resources may require one or more passwords. Narrative
Use CaseReference ID HB- 3 Home Base Use Case #3 Importing Licensed Content into Home Base Title Description The ability for LEAs/Charters to import licensed content into Home Base is a feature that allows districts to make local decisions about content offerings and integrate that content into Home Base. Many districts have content that they will want to continue to use and/or will want to adopt new content to enhance existing content in Home Base.Districts will be trained on how to import content that they own into the resource bank of Home Base. However, for content that is licensed like Discovery Education, it may be more efficient to contract directly with Pearson on getting the content in the Districts Resource Bank. Only teachers in the district will be able to access the district licensed content. Narrative
Use CaseReference ID Home Base Use Case #4 HB- 4 Title Learning Management System (LMS) Course Migration from Moodle, Blackboard, or Angel Educators will be able to import courses from their existing Moodle, Blackboard, or Angel into Home Base. Description Narrative OpenClass offers many functionalities. For example, a user will be able to: single sign on from Home Base which will bring in roster and provisioning information (available in October 2013); integrate with Google Apps for Education; post blogs, share videos, images and links; create group work spaces for class projects and study groups; connect through chat or Skype with students and teacher; and upload a variety of file types into courses, including HTML, PDF, Word, audio and videos from YouTube. Note: OpenClass is a free LMS and can be used immediately. However, it may be most prudent to wait until October 2013 to migrate course information, train select staff and then begin using in select schools in Spring 2013 and phase in additional schools in at the start of the 2014-15 school year. Additional customizations of OpenClass will occur during the 2014-15 school year to enhance the collaboration tools and integration with the other instructional components of Home Base.
Home Base Use Case #5 Use CaseReference ID HB- 5 Title Learning Management System (LMS) Course accessibility through Home Base Some educators may choose to continue to use their existing LMS but want to connect to that LMS through Home Base. Description Districts and charters who wish to connect their existing LMSs to Home Base can contact Pearson and potentially contract for that service. They may also contact the Friday Institute for assistance with Single Sign-On (SSO) connections between systems once the Identity Access Management (IAM) service is available (anticipated in 2014). Narrative
Use CaseReference ID HB- 6 HomeBase Use Case #6 Title Proprietary Reporting HomeBase incorporates native functionality that allows for greater, easier and more accurate data analysis. From the data dashboard, KPIs can be viewed that will allow for district/school comparison on academics/assessments, attendance, discipline, etc. From the KPI dashboards subgroup, grade level, and teacher analysis can be completed and edited from the same set of screens. In addition to the KPI reporting, HomeBase includes a number of out of the box reporting and a report generator that can be used to create reports on a nearly infinite quantity. Description Narrative Districts have been using a variety of proprietary programs and 3rd party applications to integrate with the old SIS (NCWISE) to fill in functional gaps, generate external reporting, populate data dashboards, and analyze data. The overhead to maintain and administer these tools vary from district to district but can be a substantial drain on resources. With the migration to PowerSchool/HomeBase districts will now have customizable data dashboards that integrate demographic as well as performance data that is reportable, and exportable to a built in Parent Portal.
