335 registered participants • 24 elementary/middle/high school students • 29 SC school districts + the SC State Board of Education and SC Department of Education • 22 Business/Industries (7 sponsors + 15 others) • 16 Institutions of Higher Education (12 from SC + 4 others) • 4 Representatives of elected officials (2 US Senators’ staff, 1 Lt. Governor, 1 City) • 20 STEM interested entities ranging from national organizations to free lance writers • 40 different STEM initiatives
SCCMS/S2TEM Synergy Beginning in 2009, SCCMS received grants and contracts from the SC Department of Education to manage the full scope of work of our state’s regional science & math education infrastructure.
South Carolina’s Statewide STEM Infrastructure - A Brief History • The 13 Regional Mathematics & Science Hubs • Scope of Work: 1993-98 Individual Leadership development. 1998-2003 School Leadership Team development and SC LASER (science & math kits). As determined by National Science Foundation. • Oversight – SC Department of Education and local Advisory Boards. • $4.9 million annually in 2011 dollars (state and federal investment). The Hubs 1993 - 2003 • The 8 Regional Mathematics & Science Centers • Scope of Work: 2003-09: Instructional Coaching as determined by SCDE. • Oversight - SC Department of Education. • $3.3 million annually in 2011 dollars (state investment including some federal funds). Mathematics & Science Regional Centers 2003 - 2009 • The8 Regional S2MART Centers • Scope of Work: 2009-11 Instructional Coaching including literacy and multiple projects serving Title 1 and Technical Assistance schools as determined by SCDE. • Oversight - SC Department of Education and SCCMS. • $3.8 million annually in 2011 dollars (state investment including some federal funds). 2009 - 2011 • The 5 Regional S2TEM Centers • Scope of Work: Innovation, Support and Research projects. As determined by SC public schools and other clients or funders. • Oversight – SCCMS and local Advisory Boards??? • $0 annually (current state investment). • $1.2 million available from “bank” (plus revenue generated by fee for service). Present

Program Volumes 2010-2011 INNOVATE: Engage school partners in implementation of specific strategies and resources to improve what is taught and how it is taught. • NOTES: • # of Districts includes duplicate counts as many districts partner in multiple innovation programs. • Digital Pilot targeted only selected classrooms for innovation.

Lessons are freely available to any individual, school or district. We have no user data.

S2TEM Centers SC will be a public/private/fee-for-service funded, not-for-profit, statewide support infrastructure for economic development through STEM education. Next Steps Identity Marketing Advocacy
