If you are still putting your confidence in your own abilities, • If you think you can “do it on your own”, • If your faith is more of an academic issue rather than an obedience issue, • You will never find this kind of joy.
God’s Righteous Character • Neh 8:10Then he said to them, Go eat the fat and drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared. For this day is holy to our LORD. And do not be sorry, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength. • Christ’s redemptive work • Rom 5:1Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; • Rom 5:2through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
The Spiritual blessings we possess: • Phi 4:13I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me. • Phi 4:19And my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. • 2Pe 1:3seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;
God’s providence as He orchestrates everything for our benefit: • Rom 8:28-30And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. • For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to beconformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
The promise of future glory • Jud 1:24Now unto him that is able to guard you from stumbling, and to set you before the presence of his glory without blemish in exceeding joy, • Answered Prayer • Joh 16:24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.
The gift of God’s Word • Psa 19:7-11The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul: The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of Jehovah is pure, Enlightening the eyes. • The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever: The ordinances of Jehovah are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: In keeping them there is great reward.
Joy comes from resting not running. It comes from trusting not working. • Pray Continually It is a time for us to align our hearts and minds with His. There are times when we need to confess our sin; Times when we can express appreciation for God’s creative wonders; Times we should express our love
Times when we should admit our fears or seek His guidance; Times we should be giving thanks. There are times when we simply need to seek to align our hearts with the heart of God. There are times we need to discuss things with the Lord. • Give Thanks in All Circumstances
Let’s be honest with ourselves… We lack joy because we lose sight of God We become lax in prayerfulness because we think too highly of ourselves We find gratitude illusive because we have put our focus in the wrong place
Memorize the words to the hymn “Count your Blessings” • Memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. • When you feel yourself getting anxious or uptight about the events of life, learn to say to yourself, “look to the Lord”. When you face a daunting task, ask, “Do I trust Him or don’t I?”
