  2. Dealing With Conflict • Everyone has his or her own way of handling conflict. • Conflict can destroy relationships • Conflict can hinder your ability to meet new people • Conflict can be the cause of job loss If YOU let it!

Conflict Resolution Animals • Collaborating OWL – Assertive in resolving disputes and tries to find a solution that makes everyone happy. • Compromising FOX – Foxes seek to find a middle of the road approach and value both relationships and the goal. • Accommodating TEDDY BEAR – Gives in to others, are not assertive and value relationships more than the goal.

  4. Conflict Resolution Animals (Continued) • Avoiding TURTLE – Turtles do not like conflict and try to avoid it by keeping to themselves and giving up personal goals and relationships. • Competing/Forcing SHARK – Forceful, goal oriented and aggressive. Relationships are of minor importance.

Benefits of Understanding All Conflict Resolution Styles • You have an awareness of your own style so you can adapt if needed. • You can appreciate the views of others even if their style is different that your own. • You can practice the skill of “Thinking Outside the Box.” • Good leaders and team members understand how to deal with all conflict resolution styles.
