5. Why is it important? Closing the Lesson You don’t actually assign IP until the students prove they know how to do it. You don’t want students to practice or memorize misperceptions of the content. So you can identify students that need additional help.

13. Anticipate difficult areas for your students You MUST look over the material before you teach to anticipate “problem” areas.

14. Plan for success during the lesson: Modify so students will be successful The most important thing to remember during a lesson is to modify your teaching according to your students’ responses during CFU. Don’t try to speed the lesson. This should be based on CFU.

15. Plan for success after the lesson: Modify at closure. If students are not successful during Closure, you need to make a strategic decision. Remember, the purpose of Closure is to measure if you students are ready for IP. Avoid the temptation to give the IP before they have proven that they are ready. If need be, continue the lesson the next day with modifications.

16. Use in class and out of class interventions appropriately. Students that were not successful during the lesson are provided additional help. You DON’T want to reateach your whole class but rather target the ones that didn’t “get it.”
