  2. What is ISM? • Year-long course designed to provide students with in-depth, hands-on experience in a field of interest • Conduct academic research • Secure a mentor in the field • Complete various assignments • Create and present a final ‘product’

  3. Conduct Academic Research • Articles in professional journals and periodicals • Books, magazines, newspapers • Interviews • Documentaries • Field experiments

  4. Secure a mentor in the field • Find someone currently working in the field • Ask, visit, observe, discuss • Log hours & take detailed notes • Learn industry standards, policies & procedures • How can you improve that field or make a difference?

  5. Complete various assignments • Annotated bibliographies • Interviews • Verbal presentations • Portfolio • Activities log & personal journal • Speaking skills

  6. Create and present a final product • Create a product – something that can be used in the field • Final presentation – present the product to ISM students, parents, teachers, administrators, and experts in the field

  7. Advantages of participating in ISM • Hands-on experience in the field • Networking – meet experts in the field • Job opportunities – internships and post-graduate positions • Knowledge and college-readiness • Scholarships and Field-specific programs • Excitement – always something new to explore ISM
