ENergy efficiency in City LOgistics Services for small and mid-sized European historic towns ENCLOSE
Project Summary • ENCLOSE aims to raising awarenessabout the challenges of energy efficient and sustainable urban logistics in European Small and Medium Historic Towns (SMHTs). • 16 partners from 13 EU countries • 3 forerunner cities and 6 follower cities • Development of Sustainable Urban Logistic Plans(SULPs) in the overall 9 ENCLOSE towns
Freight transport and city goods distribution are widely known factors of energy consumption and environmental degradation in European urban centres. ENCLOSE project addresses the STEER urban energy-efficient transport theme particularly from the point of view of the specific needs, requirements, options and priorities of European Small/Mid-size Historic Towns, demonstrating and assessing feasible and sustainable solutions leading to tangible and measurable changes in behaviour and impacts of logistics, and transferring best practice and benefits within and beyond the network of participating towns. Background
Implementationof pilot operations in 3 forerunner SMHTs feasibilityandtransferability analysis and implementation of soft measures in 6 follower SMHTs Development of Sustainable Urban Logistic Plans (SULPs) in the overall 9 ENCLOSE forerunner and follower towns Promotion of SMHTs networking on the themes of sustainable and energy-efficient logistics, to facilitate exchange of experiences, technical visits and targeted training actions topromote and achieve the adoption of Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans Objectives and main steps
Pilot measures in the 3 forerunner towns (Lucca, Trondheim, s’Hertogenbosch) Feasibility and Transferability Analysis of energy-efficient and sustainable freight logistics solutions in the 6 follower towns (Burgos, Almada, Dundee, Alba Iulia, Serres, Balchik) Sustainable Urban Logistic Plans (SULPs) in the overall 9 ENCLOSE forerunner and follower towns Suitable strategy to ensure long-term sustainability of the designed framework for Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans for small-/mid-size historic towns. Reduction of energy and environmental impacts in European SMHTs through massive dissemination and take up of the ENCLOSE framework for the definition of Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans, as well as massive replication of assessed ENCLOSE solutions for city logistics.
