  3. ALOOF Adj. uninterested; showing no concern; emotionally removed or distant

  4. ALOOF He appears to be ALOOF, but his detachment comes from shyness, not conceit.

  5. APATHETIC Adj. indifferent; showing no care, interest or concern; lacking emotion

  6. APATHETIC • The crowd was mostly APATHETIC. No one really cared whether the team won or lost.

  7. DETACHED Adj. Aloof; indifferent

  8. DETACHED • Ken seemed to rise above the petty bickering, but he wasn’t as DETACHED as he appeared.

  9. IMPASSIVE Adj. Lacking emotion or drive

  10. IMPASSIVE • Ten witnesses stood by with IMPASSIVE expressions and did nothing as the killer tormented his victim.

  19. REMOTE Adj. emotionally distant and disinterested; aloof; uninvolved; distant, far away

  20. REMOTE • Jerry became increasingly REMOTE after his parents’ divorce. He stopped socializing at school and never returned my phone calls.

  21. STOICAL Adj. lacking emotion or not showing any emotion

  22. STOICAL • Carrie accepted her fate with STOICAL silence. Whatever emotions she felt remained hidden.
