Yurt village Each yurt has been traditionally and ethically made by experienced craftsman in Mongolia, including beautifully painted roof beams and front door for an authentic look and feel. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter months, each yurt has four layers of traditional materials to keep it watertight - breathable but ultimately comfortable all year round. Each yurt sleeps between 8 and 12 people in sturdy bunk beds, has several bean bags, hanging storage, internal rope lighting and a heater for the cooler months. There is also a marquee available in the Yurt Village for groups to meet during free time. Female and male toilets and showering facilities are next to the village. We will provide a night light in each yurt.
We are World War 2 Evacuees As we are trying to relive the experience of World War 2 evacuees, we will make gas masks which we will carry with us on our journey. We will dress up as evacuees for the journey out to Guildford. We will need the costumes for our VE day celebrations later in the term, so make sure you keep yours safe.
On the day, the children come in their evacuees costumes. They will need a bag with all their belongings and a small rucksack in which to carry their drink and one little snack for the journey. They will be handed their gas mask at school. The lunch and separate drink for lunch should be packed safely (in a plastic bag/lunch box) in their main luggage. The girls will need a pair of trousers/leggings/joggers to change into for the afternoon workshop as they will be putting Home Guard / ARP uniforms on.
Children will need to bring: • Packed lunch for Thursday • Waterproof clothing • Separate bag with a little snack and drink for the journey. • Clothing for all types of weather (not their best clothes, long trousers) Children may need up to 3 changes of clothes. • Towels and personal toiletries (children will be encouraged to have a quick flannel and soap wash – no shower unless necessary) • Trainers or walking boots with good tread • Slippers or thick socks to wear around the yurt • A disposable or cheap camera (optional) • Water bottle • A small treat for Thursday evening • Nothing valuable • A torch (optional) • Children must not bring mobile phones, Ipods etc
Other Information • 4/5 members of school staff will accompany the children – names to be confirmed at a later stage. • All risk assessments are in place and will need to be approved by Surrey • Centre staff are trained with relevant qualifications • Maximum staff to pupil ratio of 1:8 • A text/email will be sent to you from school on our arrival and on Friday morning to let you know how things are going!
Additional Information • Please make us aware of the following: • Any medical condition • All medication required over the two days must be handed to a member of staff • Any change of contact details • Personal circumstances relating to your child (sleep walking, fear of darkness, bed wetting etc, this will be treated in the strictest confidence)
