Social Issue:Environmental Cars By: Clarke Martin
The problem • Today there are millions of cars on the road that run off of gas. This is a problem because our environment is rapidly deteriorating and becoming worse off. Hybrid cars are great however most people are wary of hybrid cars and have some misconceptions of them because they do not now much about them and rely on others to do research for them so therefore they do not buy them and go for other alternatives.
Why are Environmentally friendly cars unpopular? • Environmental cars have been around for awhile but consumers have yet to get on the bandwagon with these cars. • The reason being is because most people see environmental cars as unattractive or inconvenient since they need to be charged. Also, some people even say that hybrid cars do not have enough room. • Environmentally friendly cars actually have plenty of room however a few cars have given people the misconception that all cars are the same so they tend to generalize all hybrid cars.
The Real Hybrid car • This car is not only a hybrid but it has more than enough room and is made by the popular Volvo automakers who gave this hybrid a sleek modern apeal.
The absolute advantage of owning a hybrid • Both families and individuals are able to benefit from owning a hybrid car since they have enough room to fit a family but a still able to be stylish enough for younger and single people. • Hybrids run around $22,000 - $26,000 while normal cars run around $30,00 – 50,000 so you are able to save more money with a hybrid
Hybrids are safer • A study conducted by Highway Loss Data Institute says that the odds of being injured in a environmentally friendly car are 25 percent lower than average cars. • A reason they say this is because hybrids are up to ten percent heavier than other standard cars which makes them less susceptible to injuries in car crahes.
Promotion • Even with all of these advantages most people are still not buying hybrid cars. Toyota has started campaigning for their cars which they say have increased sales slightly to help this problem.
The fight is far from over • Even though Toyota has tried and done well to promote environmentally friendly cars the problem is far from over. Today there are still millions of more standard cars on the road that burn gas and pollute the atmosphere than hybrid cars. It is now up to consumers to take action and make our environment a better place by their own choices.
