  1. Science Lesson Plans Grade 2 Area: Life Science

Lesson #1 Animal Babies • Standard: Students will know that organisms reproduce offspring of their own kind and that offspring resemble their parents and one another • Materials: stuffed animals of pigs, zebras, elephants of different sizes and plastic toy figures of family with two parents and three children

  3. Engagement • Who made your breakfast this morning? • Do animals have families?

  4. Exploration • Group work: recorder, reporter, materials, manager • Materials given • Observe toys and discuss • Sort • Draw picture of sorting

  5. Explanation • Can you tell me why you sorted them that way? • What can we say about two animals of the same kind having babies?

  6. Evaluation: Handout Adults Babies Put X If you agree

  7. Elaboration: each group gets one of the following pictures • 1. Two white rabbits • 2. Two black rabbits • 3. One white and one black rabbit • 4. One brown and one black and white spotted rabbit What will the babies look like?
