Jesus’ healing was a sign of the reign of God • Disability often associated with “sin” • Faith and healing are often linked • Miraculous healings still happen • Medical professionals and therapists are often agents of healing • Healing comes from within as “God’s grace sufficient” (II Cor. 12:8) is experienced • Prayer needs to be handled carefully • Cure vs. healing – there is a difference
Including all in the Body of Christ (I Cor. 12) • Who is not at the table? • Accommodations (mobility, sensory, intellectual, emotional) • Barrier removals – physical and attitudinal • Requires funding, technology, special training, new way of presenting worship and educational programs • Involves including families of people with disabilities (respite)
“Those members of the body that we think are less honorable we clothe with greater honor (I Cor. 12:23) • Involve people in leadership, church service and mission engagement • Advocacy for civil rights and equality laws in the land • Ordination of people with disabilities and accepting those pastors who are appointed • Let people with disabilities speak for themselves
