  2. POPE PETER VII (AL-JAWLI) • Known for his wisdom (GustaveFlaubert) • Was pope for 42 years (1809-1852) • Patriarchate coincided with the reigns of Muhammad Ali (1805 – 1848), Ibrahim (1848) and Abbas I (1848 – 1854) • Utilized foreign missionaries (Catholics and Protestants)

  3. POPE CYRIL IV “THE FATHER OF REFORM” • Was pope for seven years (1854–1861) • Credited for establishing a great printing house • Established the first Egyptian school for girls • Went to Ethiopia by the order of Saeed Pasha to speak with King Theodore
