  5. What foods are in the Grain Group? Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product. Bread, pasta, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, tortillas, and grits are examples of grain products.

  6. Where does flour come from?

  7. How much grain is needed daily? • 5-6 oz a day • At least half of all the grains eaten should be whole grains.  • Examples: • 1 slice of bread = 1 oz • 5 whole wheat crackers = 1 oz • 1 pancake = 1 oz • 3 cups Popcorn = 1 oz • 1 cup of cooked rice = 2 oz • 1 cup of cooked pasta = 2 oz

  8. Why is it important to eat grains? • Great source of fiber, B vitamins, and minerals. • Iron (carries oxygen to the blood) • Whole Grains: magnesium and selenium (bone builders and releases energy from muscles)
