Activities • ITM implementation under New EFDA • TASK Agreements • Preferential Support • Collaborations • ITER • International Integrated Modelling Initiatives • EUFORIA • Mobility General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Mobility • Available for general ITM activities • 1 general meeting per year • 6 project meetings per year (one each) • ITM Working sessions involving more than one association • NB: Only available for direct work in named tasks or other specific ITM activities • As of now also available for activities with priority status within bilateral agreements. • US BPO, Kepler, BPSI (within Broader Approach) • Procedure: Request initiated through project leader(s) and formally submitted by ITM leader through EFDA CSU Garching General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Task Agreements • ITM activities prioritized in the EFDA work programme • Based on responses to calls for participation or (for ongoing tasks with deliverables in 2008) requests for renewed commitments. • Invisible:Same procedure as before for ITM members • Implemented through Task agreements: • Individual contributions recognized on the EFDA level • Individual commitments guaranteed by HoRus • Associations commitment towards ITM formalized by Task agreement between EFDA leader and HoRus. • Part of Associations work programme • Monitored by the Commission • Availability of preferential support for some activities General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Preferential Support • New funding mechanism • Not previously available for manpower without capital investments • Available for TF wide service functions. Initially (2008) proposed for • Code deployment team - 2ppy/year • Integration team - 4ppy/year • Project and TF leadership - 5.75ppy/year • Out reach officer - 0.5ppy/yr • Totalling 12.25 ppy during 2008. Expected to be expanded for following years General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Code platform deployment team This team will be responsible for the deployment and support of the Code Platform. It will, among other things, require technical expertise close to Computational Sciences. It would be beneficial to have a broader activity base than is currently the case. In particular, more associations or institutes should be involved”. General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Code Platform Deployment team Tasks General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Integration team “This team will be in charge of the more technical aspects of code integration into the platform, providing implementation services and support in direct contact with the IMP’s and the code platform deployment team. The Integration team will work on implementing state of the art analysis tools from the different IMP’s into the platform. Furthermore, it should lead and support development of the solvers needed for full coupling of code and physics modules in the platform. The integration team will initially focus on a rapid implementation of a European Transport Solver - a first step towards a full scale ITM Simulation Environment. Team members from each of the IMP’s will be responsible for the physics integration for the European Transport Solver activity together with expertise on transport code structures and solvers”. Outreach This activity is intended to improve the collaborative methods and to help deploy a database driven content management system to host the ITM internal and external web page. General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Collaborations • Recognized collaborations for ITM outside EFDA • ITER (EFDA/ELE) • US BPO( CPES, CSWIM, FACETS) • JP BPSI (Broader Approach) • Kepler (UCSD) • EUFORIA (under final negotiation) • EU FP7 Capacities project aimed at enhancing edge and core transport and turbulence modelling for ITER in EUROPE • Workflow, grid and visualization • May accelerate developments on portals/workflows • Will USE UAL as basis for data access • Designed to amend ITM-TF activities towards grid and HPC General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P. Strand
Summary • ITM implementation under New EFDA • TASK Agreements • Formal agreement between HorUs and EFDA leader • Highlights individual contributions, manifests commitment of support from Association • Provides possibility for PS • Preferential Support • For manpower - restricted to service activities for 2008 • Broadened implementation expected • Collaborations • ITER • International Integrated Modelling Initiatives • Mobility main mechanism for collaborative work General ITM meeting, Garchin September 2007, P.
