  1. Fieldwork MOV 475

  2. Field Work – MOV 475 – 2 credits(pre-requisite - MOV 420) • 112 hours volunteer time • 8 hrs/week X 14 weeks • Class time is discussion based • Class TBA up until 2 weeks prior to semester start • Will have course assignments • Broad setting of interest – related to exercise science • Needs approval from Professor Crawley (if not on approved list)

Finding a Fieldwork Site • This is your responsibility so start early! • 1-2 semesters prior • Polish resume & interview skills • Seek assistance from Career Services • Determine your references • Agency Agreement & Letter– Take 2 with you • Know exactly what you are expected to learn/experience – the sites will ask • Review Fieldwork Web Site • Date to secure • December 1st (winter semester) • April 1st (spring semester) • August 1st (fall semester)

Site Approval • http://gvsu.edu/exercisescience/exercise-science-students-2.htm • Approved Sites • Need to turn in fieldwork agreement to Professor Crawley agreement found on exercise science website • New Site • Need a plan/outline for experiences – written by site & student • Need to provide supervisor credentials/experiences turn in to Professor Crawley • Complete fieldwork agreement once approved

Other Considerations • If doing fieldwork during the spring semester it must be complete during the first 6 weeks (typically 20hrs/week) • Volunteer hours done outside of the fieldwork semester cannot count towards 475 credit • Health Compliance for internship must be completed during your fieldwork semester. Some sites may require the following components for fieldwork hours. • Immunizations/TB test • Criminal Background Check • Drug Screening • Update CPR & First Aid Certifications • Flu Shot

  6. Health Compliance Requirements for all Interns: • The health compliance requirements are to be completed during the semester you are registered for MOV 475. • Details of the requirements, including deadlines, testing procedures and screening protocols will be reviewed at the start of your MOV 475 semester as a part of a meeting lead by the health compliance officer.

FAQs • Does the internship/fieldwork need to be within the semester dates? • Yes for fieldwork • Yes for internship, however 1-2 week early start is acceptable. • Can I complete my fieldwork and internship at the same site? • Yes, however responsibilities must change with an internship and a plan must be presented • Can I complete my fieldwork or internship where I currently work? • In some cases, approval needed by Professor Crawley
