  2. Xray Errors VistaScan Dürr Dental Imaging Systems

  3. VistaScan Combi, Perio, Mini Xray image errors could happened by a defect device, insufficient service or handling mistakes. A defect of the device or insufficient service are not easy to differentiate. A defect of a device happened mostly within the first few weeks, insufficient service will be seen after some month. This ppt should help to identify errors ans solve them in a short time to keep the image quality on a high level. Important: The transport direction of the image plate a a influence on the error description, so you have to keep the transport direction in mind, if you try to find the reason for failures. The images in the following ppt are always in the scan direction of the VistaScan Mini and VistaScan Combi, exept the pages were we have written that it is a VistaScan Perio. For VistaScan Perio the error are rotated 90°. The product images (right above) shows for which devices the error could happened. Positioning errors are not part of this presentation. To categorise the errors we use 3 icons. Defect device: Service: Handling:

  4. VistaScan Röntgenbildfehler Symptom: X-Ray image shows low contrast and very bright areas. Reason: Light from the room deleted some information from the image plate. Remedy: Carry the image plate in the light protection cover.

  5. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Picture is divided (vertically) into 2 half pictures. Reason: Dirt in the laser slot (hair, dust, etc.). Remedy: Clean the laser slot.

  6. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Picture is divided (horizontally) into 2 half pictures. Reason: Laser or PMT (photomultiplier) is defective Remedy: Return the scanner to Dürr Dental

  7. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: X-Ray image shows a dark area which extents past left and right borders of the image. Reason: A power supply or cable is defect and dissturbing the scanning. It could be the power supply from the scanner but also from an other device nearby. Remedy: Change position of the scanner / Use a better shielded USB/EPP cable / Replace the unshielded power supply .

  8. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Panoramic image is blurred and in the middle you can see a black area, additionally some round white areas. Sometimes, depending on the model, you will also see hinges. Reason: The Xray cassette is turned. Remedy: Place the Xray cassette in the correct position.

  9. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Dark grey scale fading from the top down, extends past left and right border of the image. Reason: Light from above, maybe the user removed the light protection cover to early. Remedy: Do not remove the light protection cover during the scanning process.

  10. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Dark grey scale fading up from the bottom, extents past the left and right border of the image. Reason: Light from below, maybe reflections from a glass table etc. Remedy: Change the position of the scanner or place on a non reflective surface.

  11. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Grey lines overlap on left and right border of the image. Reason: Transport slipped. Remedy: Change the transport belt (Order No. 2130-993-00), clean the transport mechanism.

  12. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Images looks frayed, also possible with intra oral images. Reason: SOL Sensor is not correct adjusted. Remedy: Return the scanner to Dürr Dental.

  13. Xray Errors VistaScan * The grey scale in the background is amplified, normally you can`t see it as clear as in this example. Symptom: While scanning two (or more) image plates at the same time, the pictures appear as one big image instead of two (or more) single images. Reason: Light shining into the scanner, or you have to reduce the HV. Remedy: Increase the threshold, change the light protective brush (order no. 2130-205-00E), reduce the light in the room / protect the scanner from direct sunlight

  14. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Grey lines at image. Reason: Transport slipping. Remedy: Change the transport belt/wheel (Order No. 2130-993-00 for Combi or Ordner No.2140-300-02E for Perio ), clean the transport.

  15. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Picture is divided in to 2 half pictures. Reason: Dirt in the laser slot (hair, dust, etc.). Remedy: Clean the laser slot.

  16. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Stripes / fine marks, scratched likewise image Reason: Dirt in the laser slot (hair, dust, etc.). Remedy: Clean the laserslot.

  17. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image has a pattern all over the picture. Reason: Lasermodule is defect. Remedy: Return the scanner to DÜRR DENTAL.

  18. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image shows a weird pattern instead of the normal picture. Reason: The compression operation failt, due to operating errors from the pc. Remedy: Switch the compression off or change the pc.

  19. Xray Errors VistaScan Attention this image is from a VistaScan Perio, from a VistaScan Combi and VistaScan Mini the effect is rotated 90°. Symptom: Toothed image Reason: SOL Sensor defect Remedy: Exchange of the pentaprim drive (VistaScan Mini), Repair of the Scanner at Dürr Dental.

  20. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: A part of the picture is missing. Reason: A metall part from the Xray tube was in front of the beam. Remedy: Repair the Xray tube or take care that no metall part is between Xray tube and patient.

  21. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: The edges of the picture are wavy. Reason: Speed of the pentaprism is unsteady. Remedy: Return the scanner to DÜRR DENTAL.

  22. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: A sharp border divides the picture in a dark and bright area. Reason: Potentiometer of the PMT is defect. Remedy: Return the scanner to DÜRR DENTAL.

  23. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: One of the edges is mirrored. Reason: The dentist or assistant have bended the image plate. Remedy: Take care that you don`t bend the image plate so much.

  24. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image is longer than it should, bright vertical lines. Reason: Transport issue (VistaScan Combi, VistaScan Perio), wrong light protection covers (3rd party sleeves) or wrong too thick image plate (VistaScan Mini). Remedy: Use only original Dürr Dental accessories, make a service.

  25. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image cropped. Reason: Corner mask went wrong. Remedy: Deactivate the corner mask in the VistaScanConfig.

  26. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image shows bright areas. Reason: To low dose. Remedy: Increase the dose.

  27. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Image longer or shorter than it should be. Reason: Manipulated scan mode, transport speed is not in relation to the resolution. Remedy: Reset scan mode to factory defaults.

  28. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Damage o the lamination of the image plate. Reason: PSP holding device. Remedy: Use Dürr Dental PSP holders, consider the manual.

  29. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: 2 exposures on one plate. Reason: Image plate exposed twice, or erasure unit damaged or switched off. Remedy: Expose the image plate only once, check the erasure unit.

  30. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Small bright areas, like clouds. Reason: Micro scratches on the plate, wearout thru 3rd party sleeves, or after a lot of exposures. Remedy: Exchange the image plate.

  31. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Shadow like the shape of the image plate. Reason: Image plate was removed from the light protection sleeve before scanning. Remedy: Direct feeding out of the sleeve of the plate into the machine (VistaScan Mini) or cassette (VistaScan Combi, VistaScan Perio).

  32. Xray Errors VistaScan Attention: This image is scanned by a VistaScan Perio. For VistaScan Combi and VistaScan Mini the image is rotated 90°. Symptom: Evenly spread dark lines above the image. Reason: Laser module defect. Remedy: Repair of the scanner at Dürr Dental.

  33. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Round shadow in the image. Reason: Image plate with ID was exposed from the wrong side. Attention image is mirrored! Remedy: Image plate always with blue colored side towards the tube.

  34. Xray Errors VistaScan r a Symptom: Dark shadow in the image. Reason: Image plate was removed from the sleeve to feed it into the cassette. The dark area was protected by the thumb. Remedy: Feed the image plate always direct from the sleeve into the cassettes.

  35. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Frayed bright white areas, mostly in metallic parts or fillings. Reason: Dose is too low. Remedy: Increase the xray dose.

  36. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Small shadow on above or below of the picture in readout direction. Reason: You are using old VistaScan Perio cassettes. Remedy: Change the cassettes to the new model.

  37. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Distortion above or below in the image. Reason: Image plate was excentric and angular feeded. During the scan, the imageplate touch the edge of the feeding and this will rotate the plate during the scanning process. Remedy: Feed the image plate centric.

  38. Xray Errors VistaScan Symptom: Toothed image. Reason: Automatic angle correction for the VistaScan Mini, if you use low resolution 10 Lp/mm. Remedy: Update to 5.3 or higher. Scan in higher resolution (min. 20 LP/mm).
