  4. Chapter 12 Lesson 2 The Nutrients You Need The Six Essential Nutrients • The nutrients that you get from food are called the essential nutrients. The six classes of essential nutrients are: • 1. carbohydrates • 2. fats • 3. proteins • 4. vitamins • 5. minerals • 6. water

  5. Chapter 12 Lesson 2 The Nutrients You Need Carbohydrates • A carbohydrate is a chemical composed of one or more simple sugars. Carbohydrates can be sugars or starches. • Sugars are found in foods such as fruit, honey, table sugar, candy, and desserts. • Starches are found in foods such as rice, pasta, and bread.
