Vocab Words • Coexistence- in ecology, a term that describes when organisms with similar needs for shelter and food are able to live in a habitat and benefit • Cooperation- when one or more organisms is able to mutually live in a common environment and benefit each other • Competition- when one or more organisms is competing for a limited amount of resources in a particular area • Parasitism- a form of symbiosis in which one of two participants benefits at the expense of the other • Mutualism- a form of symbiosis in which both participants benefit. Example is a clown fish living in an anemone. • Autotrophs- a plant that can make its own food • Aquatic ecosystem- an ecosystem in a body of water; contains marine and freshwater • Foodweb- an interconnection of food chains and their predator/prey relationships • Trophic Level- the position an organism occupies in a food chain
