The election of Jimmy Carter and his situation going into the race. • The election was between the current president Gerald Ford and a new Politian Jimmy Carter. • Going into the election Carter was the senate of Georgia. • American's wanted a new face • Due to Ford’s lack of confidence Jimmy Carter won and became the new president. • Jimmy Carter’s main focus was during his political career was the conservation of energy.

Moral equivalent of war speech • Carter’s Moral Equivalent of war speech was his pivotal point as president because it showed Americans what he stood for. • Below is the summery of the speech. • Each American uses the energy equivalent of 60 barrels of oil per person each year. • Most people who think back to the energy problems of the 1970s point to the Arab oil embargo of 1973 as the event that triggered economic and energy malaise for the United States. While the embargo certainly began what became known as the "energy crisis," it was not the first event that suggested problems with the American energy system.

  4. Taxes and change in the economy • Jimmy Carter passed Taxes and made laws that cut down on the amount each individual could use in oil each day. The laws and taxes Carter passed impacted the economy immensely, causing massive back ups at gas stations, cars were running out of gas, Americans became upset with Carters decision to cut back on energy use.

Carters approach and its lasting impact • Carters approach as president set off a long chain of events that can still be seen today in our economy. • Jimmy Carter was the first president to acknowledge the growing energy crisis, he made laws and taxes that affected all Americans • Jimmy Carter made the public aware of the Energy crisis a bit more than he needed to, nevertheless he was the first to acknowledge it and make it apparent to America
