  2. RATIO AND PROPORTION

  3. In miss.vinitha’s math class, she gives 2 pieces of bond paper for every pupil. We say that the ratio of pupils to bond paper is “1 to 2”. We write it 1:2 or 1/2

  4. What is ratio • A ratio is a comparison between two numbers. • It can be written in 2 ways: 1:2 or 1÷2 Colon Fraction

  5. In our example, we compared the number of pupils to the number of sheets of bond paper. If there are 5 pupils in miss.vintha’s class, how many sheets of bond paper should she distributed?

  6. If there are 5 pupils in miss.vintha’s class, how many sheets of bond paper should she distributed? The ratio of pupils to paper is: 5:10 or 5÷10

  7. Understanding proportions

  8. A proportion is an equation stating that two ratios are equal To prove that two ratios form a proportion, you must prove that they are equivalent, To do this, you must demonstrate that the relationship between numerators is the same as the relationship between denominators.

  9. Yes, these two ratios form a proportion, because the szme relationship Exists in both the numerators and denominators. Examples: Do the ratios form a proportion? No,these ratios do form a proportion, because the ratios are not equal
