Current Situation – Reaching Higher II • In 2005, the Ontario Government announced “Reaching Higher” a five-year funding plan for Ontario post-secondary Institutions. • COU is looking begin discussions with MTCU on the next five year funding plan set to begin in 2010-11. • York should work now position itself as MTCU develops the new plan.
Elements of Reaching Higher • Reaching Higher I had four key elements • Quality – Access • Growth – Health Human Resources • Quality ~ $250 M allocated over 3 areas • Unfunded BIUs – General Quality • Special Projects
Elements of Reaching Higher • Growth ~ $300 M • Focus on graduate expansion • Unexpected undergraduate expansion has been problematic. • Health Human Resources ~ $100 M • Undergraduate & postgraduate MD expansion • Small amount for clinical education

Possibilities for Reaching Higher II • Growth • GTA Growth will be a key focus • Enrolment Contracts • Mirrors York’s Strategic Growth to rebalance • Partnerships with other postsecondary partners. • Quality • Need to define what we mean by quality • Likely to continue the focus on pilot projects
