AANP Office of Health Policy AANP’s State Government Affairs • AANP aims to positively change patient lives and the healthcare system by influencing state-level policies to effectively utilize nurse practitioners in meeting patient care needs. • Indentify, connect and support state-level policy initiatives. • Assist in developing and analyzing legislation and regulation that influence NP practice & patient care. • Develop and share policy related resources. • Cultivate strong state-level nurse practitioner leaders.

  4. AANP Strategic Plan AANP’s State Government Affairs NPs will have PLENARY AUTHORITY In 90% or more of all states & D.C by 2020

  6. Consensus Implementation STRATEGIES OUTCOMES • 1. Emphasizing utilization of the Consensus Model as guide for language-v-other NPAs . • 2. Identifying “best practices” & successful recourses…and exporting to other states • 3. Crafting core message points and grassroots coordination • 1. Increase use of the CM language in proposed legislation • 2. Increasing time local leaders have for key relationship building • 3. Using messaging “that works” and creating platform for communication

Consensus Implementation CHALLENGES OPPORTUNITIES • Scope of Practice Taskforces & Language Negotiation • “Team-based” regulation of professional disciplines • BOM Rule Making • Misconceptions on the parallel timelines for the Consensus Model and academic transition to DNP • Building on Momentum • Consistent Messaging • Partnerships Around Aligned Goals • … positively change patient lives and the healthcare system by influencing state-level policies to effectively utilize APRNs to meet patient care needs
