What does Word Choice Mean • How do I make my individual word choices… • Good? • Radical? • Spectacular? • Focus on three types of Words • Adjectives • Use words that have the right connotations • Verbs • Use verbs that give us information • Try to avoid “Is” and “Are” • Nouns • Use specific nouns • Dog vs. Dalmatian

For Example • Weak Words • I almost forgot to get snacks for my Grammy Party, so I went to the store to buy chips and salsa. • I like Adele, and am happy she won 6 awards. • What’s the grammar error in this sentence? • Strong Words • I almost forgot to purchase snacks for my Grammy Party, so I hurried to the store to buy chips and salsa. • I adore Adele and am ecstatic that she won 6 Grammys.

There is no such thing as a synonym • Wait… What? • Words may have similar denotations • Dictionary Definitions • Connotations are vary and are significant • The feeling of a word. • If I want to say Lyle “traveled by foot” I could use: • Walk, Hike, March, Parade, Perambulate, Promenade, Ramble, Saunter, Schlepp, Stride, Stroll, Traipse, Etc.
