GROUNDWATER NOTES NB #1: Fresh Water
GROUNDWATER 1ST: Water flows ____________ through soil layers
GROUNDWATER 1ST: Water flows undergroundthrough soil layers
GROUNDWATER 2nd: Water goes down easily because it’s _________________ (has holes).
GROUNDWATER 2nd: Water goes down easily because it’s permeable(has holes).
GROUNDWATER 3rd: Water reaches an ______________ (solid) layer and is trapped.
GROUNDWATER 3rd: Water reaches an impermeable(solid) layer and is trapped.
GROUNDWATER 4th: Water _______ and fills spaces in the soil.
GROUNDWATER 4th: Water risesand fills spaces in the soil.
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~________________: Area totally filled with water (this is where groundwater is found).
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~Saturated Zone: Area totally filled with water (this is where groundwater is found).
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~_______________: Top of the Saturated Zone (tells you how deep to dig in order to reach water).
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~Water Table: Top of the Saturated Zone (tells you how deep to dig in order to reach water).
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~______________: Any underground layer of rock that holds water.
GROUNDWATER VOCABULARY ~Aquifer: Any underground layer of rock that holds water.
How do we get groundwater? People drill wells in order to reach and have access to groundwater. If you are going to drill a well, you must drill BELOW the water table in the Saturated Zone
GROUNDWATER DIAGRAM Color the following layers of your diagram on the bottom of your note page. You can decide which colors you would like to use. *Unsaturated Zone (contains the soil layers) *Water Table (draw a line across the diagram showing where the water table is) *Saturated Zone (where water is located) *Solid Rock (Impermeable Layer)
