Sued for Cholera in Haiti • 8,300 Haitians died of cholera in 2010 (right after earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people) • Cholera bacteria not indigenous of Haiti • Determined that UN base had leaking sewage that caused the outbreak • Thousands of cholera cases per month continue • Lawsuit in United States Federal Court • United Nations accused of negligence and misconduct • Demanding financial compensation • Secretary-general claims that UN has legal immunity • UN refused to discuss topic • However, in the process of creating steps to prevent the spread of disease
