Dredging 2012 • Low flood risk • Potential for less dredging requirement in Pools. • Lower (Middle Miss) potential for low water & more dredging. • Funding • FY 12 flat for Upper, Lower & ILW; Kaskaskia and SEMO none. • Supplemental Funding for Upper, Lower, Kaskaskia and SEMO.
Future Marine Work • Environmental Dredging Carlyle Lake & Kaskaskia River- IDIQ contract for small cutterhead & mechanical dredging equipment. Closes 4 June. • Lock & Dam 25 - Downstream Main Lock Scour Repairs, Phase II. Closes 11 May. • Lock & Dam 24 – Scour Repair – tbd, 4th Quarter. • O&M & New Dike Contracts- typically issued Jan. • FY13 budget is healthy. • Rock Removal FY14 – Thebes to Commerce
Rock Removal Update Current Status Rock Grinding contract unsuccessful. (Phases 2–4) only removed 20 cu yds out of 6,700 cu yds. Path Forward Evaluated alt. methods (boring, saw cutting, etc.) Concluded that nothing will work except for blasting. Budget request for FY14 (blasting) New AIS data will be used to determine tow tracks. Pinnacles and rock outcrops are shown as obstruction areas in the IENC. Trigger (10-ft Cape Girardeau and falling) Coordinate with USCG and RIAC, issue Navigation Notice. Rock pinnacles will begin effecting 9 ft draft barge traffic at a stage of 8.2 Cape Girardeau.
