  2. Sounds are put together to make syllables. • Syllables are combined to form • words.

  3. The word catnip has two parts or syllables.The word fantastic has three parts!

  4. To read or spell longer words, you just have to do it one part, or syllable, at a time.

  5. This word has 2 syllables. Each syllable is a word. • tub bath

  6. When a word has two vowels that are separated by consonants…you can divide them into syllables to make them easier to read and spell!

  7. Rule 1. • When there are 2 consonants between the vowels. Divide them “smack dab” down the middle. • sunfish • tennis • cactus

  8. However, digraphs stays together • pock et fashon

  9. Rule 2 • For now, when there is only one consonant, that consonant is needed to close in the first syllable! • relish • habit

  10. scooping syllables • napkin • say… “nap”, “kin”, “napkin”
