Ashford District Partnership Group Plan October 2011 – April 2013 Supporting Valuing People Now to happen in Kent
Who’s involved in writing the plan • All members of the Ashford District Partnership Group • Planning and checking Group Members are: Ashford Community Learning Disability Team, Community Day Service, Former KCC Councillor, Voice 4 Kent, Good Day Programme Manager, Ashford Housing strategy manager, East Kent Hospitals, People with learning difficulties, Ashford Job Centre plus, Family Carers, Police, Kent Supported Employment and Volunteer Centre
How did we decide what our priorities are • At our District Partnership group meeting we started by looking at the 6 Valuing People priorities and what was important to people in Ashford. • From a lot of discussions around tables at our meetings we found out what was working and what is not working. • We talked to the planning and checking group, carers coffee mornings, coffee and chat group, We decided what projects people would like to concentrate on.
Easy read information pack for opticians and people with a learning disability • Following on from a presentation at our DPG about health & eye care, it became clear that opticians did not have easy read information. • The District Worker supported people to survey local opticians to find out about their understanding of customers with learning disabilities. • As a result, opticians said they would like an information pack on eye care, attending an eye test and particular eye conditions. Information will also be provided for optician staff to make them more aware of peoples needs. • We worked with Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) and SeeAbility to produce an easy read information pack about visiting the opticians and eye care. This pack will be available at opticians throughout the area for people with a learning disability.
How will we make sure our Group Plan happens • We will continue to work with other organisations and forums to ensure that we are able to feed information through on our targets • We will evaluate any work we do by working with the Planning and Checking Group • We will carry out mystery shopping checks Thanks for Listening
