Feudal System. The Manor System grows with more people & serfs swearing fealty (loyalty) for protection. The leaders of the manors or lords/noblemen gain power & land. Lords hire people to defend the manor/serfs, paying them in Fiefs or land for their loyalty & service.

The Manor System grows with more people & serfs swearing fealty (loyalty) for protection. • The leaders of the manors or lords/noblemen gain power & land. • Lords hire people to defend the manor/serfs, paying them in Fiefs or land for their loyalty & service. • These hired people for defense are called Knights & they fallow an honor code called Chivalry. • Some lords become more powerful than others & the less powerful lords would swear fealty & service for safety & power. • This created a complex social hierarchy where a lord or Knight could sweat fealty to more than one person. • A person who swears fealty & accepts a fief is called a vassal. • Some lords gained enough power to become Kings!
