Start the College Conversation • Ask your student: • What are they good at? • What school subjects do they enjoy? • What sets them apart? • Ask the community: • ***If you know of a person whose job seems interesting, ask them how they got their job and what you can do to prepare for a job in that field. • Ask to observe their job (“A day in the life of…”).

Lake-Sumter State College Enrollment Checklist • LSSC application -  • www.LSSC.edu - $30 application fee • High School Senior Days – FREE application • Financial Aid submitted -  (Parent) • Complete FAFSA (opens October 1st of Senior Year) • www.FAFSA.ed.gov • Scholarships: Volunteer opportunities, churches, memberships, etc. • Submit completed/final transcripts – high school, college, AP scores • Placement testing (may be optional for some students) • ACT, SAT, PERT - can mix and match scores • Not pass/fail; just determines what classes to start with • Activate Lakehawk email account • Submit Florida residency paperwork to receive in-state tuition (Parent) • Orientation (SOAR – Student Online Advising and Registration) • Part 1: online power point presentation • Part 2: on campus or online (skype); academic advisors: • Provide personalized advising guides • Review suggested classes to take within first semester • Organize campus tour • Register for classes • Pay for classes by deadline dates

  5. Common Questions How many classes do I take? Do I have to go full-time? (Full-time = 4 classes/12 credits each semester) Decide what works best for you and what kind of learner you are. • Resources at your disposal: • Office of Disabilities (OSD) • Learning Centers • Libraries • Math Emporiums • Academic Advising • Career Advising • Financial Aid and Scholarships

  6. Common Questions How are classes organized? Are they like a high school schedule? No! As you can see, some of the classes meet 3xs a week and some meet twice a week. The Academic Advisor suggests classes for you to take and you determine which one(s) fit best into your schedule.
