Statistics Refer to a set of methods and rules for organizing, summarizing and interpreting information

Population and Sample • the entire group that a researcher wishes to study is called a population. • Sample is a set of individuals selected from a population, usually intended to represent the population in a study.
Parameter and Statistic • Any values that describe population are called parameter. • Any values that describe sample are called statistic.
Descriptive and Inferential Statistic • DSs are statistical procudures used to summarize, organize and simplify data. • ISs consist of techniques that allow us study samples and then generalize about populations from which they are selected.
Sampling error • is the descrepancy, or amount of error, that exist between a sample statistic and the corresponding population parameter.
Random sampling • is a process for obtaining a sample from a population that requires that every individual in the population have the same chance of being selected for the sample.
