Last time Walk the Walk Ephesians 4:1-2 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith you were called, with all humility and gentleness, bearing with one another in love;
Walk His way • Ephesians 5:1-2 • Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. • Colossians 1:10 • to walk worthily of the Lord, pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Who & what is our God ? • Matt 12:33b …for the tree is known by its fruit. • Rom 1:18-20 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Eternal Spirit full of Love & goodness • John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.“ • Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, • Is 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.
What is our God? • Omnipotence: Literally this word means all-powerful. • Self-existence:, “I AM THE ONE WHO ALWAYS IS.” God has no beginning or end. He just exists. The Bible says, “In the beginning, God.” He was already there. • Infinitude: God knows no boundaries. He is without measure. • Sovereignty: by which He rules His entire creation.” It makes Him absolutely free to do what He knows to be best. • Holiness: sets God apart from all other created beings. It refers to His majesty and His perfect moral purity. There is absolutely no sin or evil thought in God at all. • Trinity: Though the actual word is not used in the Bible, the truth of God revealing Himself in three persons is included. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all called God,
Omniscience: He possesses perfect knowledge and therefore has no need to learn. It is impossible to hide anything from God. • Self-sufficiency: The Bible says that God has life in Himself (see John 5:26). All other life in the universe is a gift from God. He does not need our help with anything, but because of His grace and love, He allows us to be a part of advancing His plan on earth. • Immutability: This simply means that God never changes. It is why the Bible says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” • Eternal: In some ways, this fact about God is similar to His self-existence. God always has been and will forever be, because God dwells in eternity. Time is His creation. • Omnipresence: “always present.” Since God is infinite, His being knows no boundaries. “I am with you always” is repeated 22 times in both the Old and New Testaments.
Some Bible verses to help us • Zeph 3:17 "The LORD your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. • Ps 86:5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.
Deut 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments; • Mic 7:18 Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love.
1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. • 1 John 4:10-12 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. • 1 Tim 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. • Rom 2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? • 2 Cor 13:11 Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Jesus our example • John 15:9-14 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. • Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
So Who is He Love: John wrote, “God is love.” This means that God holds the wellbeing of others as His primary concern. Faithfulness: Everything that God has promised will come to pass. His faithfulness guarantees this fact. He does not lie. Mercy: Mercy is the attribute of God which disposes Him to be actively compassionate. Justice: The Bible says that God is just, but it is His character that defines what being just really is. Being just brings equality (fairness) to everyone. When there are evil acts, justice demands there be a penalty ( & discipline).
Goodness: The goodness of God is that which disposes Him to be kind, cordial, benevolent, and full of good will toward men. • Gracious: God enjoys giving great gifts to those who love Him, even when they do not deserve it. The Bible says, “The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” • Wisdom: “Wisdom is the ability to devise perfect ends and to achieve these ends by the most perfect means.” In other words, God makes no mistakes. He is the Father who truly knows best, as Paul explains in Romans 11:33: “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways!”
What then is the outcome of knowing Him? • 1 Cor 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. • 2 Pet 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; • Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. • Heb 4:9-10 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
Psalm 67:1-7 • May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.
