  2. What is a homonym? • Words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently OR • Words that are pronounced the same but spelled differently

  3. There’s a HOLE in my jacket! Now the WHOLE thing is ruined. • A HOLE is a cavity or hollow place * Don’t fall in that deep hole. • WHOLE means entire or complete *I will eat the whole pizza by myself. MEMORY TIP: WHOLE has one more letter than HOLE; so remember to use the one with the W to mean the “entire thing”

I have READ that book with the RED cover. • RED is a color • I used to have a red bicycle when I was little. • READ, when pronounced like the color red, is the past tense of READ. • I read 2 books last week. Memory Trick: Remember that READ is spelled the same as its present tense pronunciation READ.
