  2. What is a homonym? • Words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently OR • Words that are pronounced the same but spelled differently

I SENT Mr. Cooper to the store with 50 CENTS to buy flowers with a fresh SCENT. • CENT-1 penny • One cent doesn’t buy much anymore. • SENT-past tense of send • Sheila sent me her email address. • SCENT-good smell • The scent of the flowers is delightful. MEMORY TIP: CENT with a “c” is one Coin. Replace the “d” in SEND to make it SENT.

  4. I KNOW that you have NO pencils, but I’ll ask for one anyway. • KNOW-to recognize or understand • I know the answer to the question. • NO-the opposite of yes • No, I do not like your blue hair. Memory Trick: KNOW with a “k” is the root word of “Knowledge”
