Erythema nodosum • This slide shows erythema nodosum, which is the most common kind of panniculitis. Nodules are primarily subcutaneous, but may involve the dermis as well as the fat. This patient has multiple nodules of erythema nodosum. • Often subtle areas of erythema may overly such nodules. On exam the margins are often ill-defined and the center of the lesion is minimally elevated compared to the margins.
Erythema nodosum • Such nodules are often relatively subtle on simple inspection, and are best appreciated by palpation.
