  4. Compelling Statistics • If MySpace were a country… It would be the 5th largest in the world! • 300,000 new people sign up on MySpace • Everyday!! • That means that 1 in every 4 Americans are on MySpace…

  5. My Space continued… • Over 50 million emails are sent via MySpace EVERY DAY (More than Yahoo, Hotmail or Google!) • There are over 8 million images and 60,000 new videos uploded EVERY DAY • 4.5 billion pages were viewed In ONE day

On to FaceBook • More than 60 million users with 250,000 new registrations… Everyday! • More than half of Facebook users are outside of college • The fastest demographic is over 25 years of age • Users access FaceBook an average of 20 minutes per day – Everyday! • The number one photo sharing application on the Web!

  7. Dangers • Sexual Predators • Cyber Bullying: • Identity Theft • Addiction/Withdrawl • Employment hazard • Exposure to Inappropriate Content: Example • Promotes Underage Drinking and Risky Behavior

How to keep our children safe? • Be aware of your child’s online activities • Go online with your child and have them show you the sites they visit most often • Keep the computer in a central location: never in a bedroom or behind closed doors • Use parental controls or blocking software • Randomly check your child’s accounts • TALK to your children about what information to put online and more importantly what NOT to put online • Communicate with your children often and be aware of what’s going on in their lives!
