Year One at Stockley Farm Park 24th September 2013
Wow! We’ve arrived at Stockley Farm Park. I wonder which animals we are going to see first!
We learned all about horses and ponies. A horse tooth?!! Wow! A horse shoe from a shire horse. Did you know? A pony measures less than 14 hands high.
What does a horse need? Water and hay Rubber mat Sawdust bed
Really?!! This is a horse hoof clipping. It is just the same as cutting our nails! A person who looks after hooves is called a Farrier.
We learned about the farm crops. This one is oats. When the top is chopped off by the combine harvester it leaves straw.
These cows are too young to be milked yet. Stockley Farm has over 350 cows!
We went on a woodland walk and found: blackberries, acorns, mushrooms, spiders, squirrels, butterflies, and an owl box.
Oak bark is rough. Beech bark is smooth. A badger set!
In the middle of the day, we had our lunch and a play on the playground.
We felt the wool and walked the hand-reared sheep.
We fed the goats from our hands and saw the highland cow.
We saw and stroked the farm pets: the rabbit, the cat and the guinea pig.
Thank you Stockley Farm Park for a great day!
