PART 1: The Problem • Inadequate drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene is a major cause of death and illness worldwide • 5000 people/day [1.8 million/year] die; usually children who die from diarrhea • Equivalent to15-20 jetliners crashing each day!! • Millions of days of lost education and earnings
The Problem: Lack of Access to Clean Drinking Water • 885 million people in the world do not have access to an improved drinking water source [13% of the world’s population] • Almost ½ of the world’s population does not have a piped connection to home/plot/yard Safe Drinking Water– Not Everyone Can Take It For Granted
