The Sacraments of Initiation Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation
Opening Prayer Dear Lord, Help us to better understand our role as baptized Christians in the world and give us the strength to always spread the Gospel. Help us to know You better, Jesus, so that when we receive You in the Eucharist, we can do so joyfully. Thank You for giving us eternal life. Amen.
The Baptism of Jesus At that time, Jesus arrived from Galilee and came to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. But John tried to make Him change His mind. “I ought to be baptized by you,” John said, “and yet you have come to me!” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so for now. For in this way we shall do all that God requires.” So John agreed. As soon as Jesus was baptized, He came up out of the water. Then heaven was opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and lighting on him. Then a voice said from heaven, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased.” - Matthew 3:13-17
The Last Supper While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, and gave it to His disciples. “Take and eat it,” He said; “this is my body.” Then He took a cup, gave thanks to God, and gave it to them. “Drink, all of you,” He said; “this is my blood, which seals God’s covenant, my blood poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will never drink this wine until the day I drink the new wine with you in my Father’s Kingdom.” - Matthew 26:26-29
Pentecost When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak. - Acts 2:1-4
