THE SHEPHERD’S LOVING DEDICATION AND DEVOTION Rev. Dr. Samuel P. Fernandez PREACHER
Joy is love’s music Peace is love’s agreement Longsuffering is love’s endurance Kindness is love’s service Goodness is love’s deportment Faithfulness is love’s measure. - (John Haggai) Joy is love’s music
Love is uplifting. Love is deep when it is pure. Love sweetens sorrow. Love rules without anger, resentmentand animosity. Love is the gift of oneself. Love is faithful to what it finds. Love is strong as death. Love is life’s prize and payment. Love is the crown of all bliss.
“Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominate, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.”
“Again Jesus said, ‘Simon son of John, do you truly love me?’ “He answered, ‘Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.’ ‘Feed my sheep.’ “(v.16,NIC)
is interpreted as tend my sheep. “My sheep” are precious to the Lord. He gave His life for them.
“The third time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ “Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,
Jesus used the verb agapao. Apostle Peter used phileo. Agapao expresses a higher type of devotion. Apostle Peter used phileo which means “love as a friend.”
“Shepherd Psalm:” The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want He maketh me to lie down in green pastures He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. (Ps 23:16, KJV)
“Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel; you who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth … “ (Ps 80:, NEV)
Abel is the first shepherd mentioned in the OldTestament. The sons of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were shepherds, so with David, Moses and Amos.
“I am a shepherd, and you are one of my flocks. I shall return to London immediately to meet you and discuss your difficulties.” (Anon, Quotes and Anecdotes)
Jesus said: “Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.” (Matt 20:27, KJV)
“If a shepherd has one hundred sheep, and one wanders away and is lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others and go out in the hills to search for the lost one? And if he finds it, he will surely rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.” (Matt 18:12-14, New Living Translation)
As the Lord is the Great Shepherd, let the dedication and devotion from above be our guide as shepherds in the vineyard of the Lord.
“If any man serve me, him will my Father honour.” (John 17:26, KJV)
