Madam’s Mural Junior plus 1 project by Pauline Poe
Welcome! • Hello! My name is Pauline Poe, and this is my Junior Plus 1 Project for the Clayton Arts Academy of 2014. I have always had a passion for painting ever since I could remember, so I took advantage of my skills and made the most with my junior project, hence the progress of a developing mural in my French teacher’s room. And speaking of my French teacher, I have always been infatuated with the French culture, its cuisine, and anything francophone related. So I thought, what would be better than to make a collage/mural of a French arts and its beautiful culture? And this where all the magic begins!

Self Reflection Q: How did you decide to do this project? I decided to do a mural because I love painting and I have always been interested in all French things related, so why not collaborate both passions into something charming? And the blank wall in my French classroom is distracting. Q: How did you arrange for your mentor? I just asked her, and she seemed delighted to begin the renovation of her wall, and she was ecstatic for the most part. Q: What were the successes of your mentor? She seemed pretty flexible with my plans and worked with me through and through which helped me a lot. Q: What was the most frustrating aspect of your project? Time definitely. I was crunched with the deadline coming and the time I had left because the approval for my project took up most time. And getting my parents to be convinced they would be reimbursed with 100% guarantee was difficult.
Self Reflection: continued… Q: If you could do this project over again, what would you do differently? I would definitely manage my time better and be on top of things because I put the pro to procrastination. Q: What are some valuable lessons you have learned from this project? To definitely not do things procrastinate or you will suffer its consequences. Q: How will you apply the lessons you learned to your life beyond school? I would like to take heed of what I say here to and to definitely listen to myself and pay more attentions with deadlines and not push everything last minute. Q: What advice could you give to next year’s seniors about this Academy Plus 1 Project? I would like to keep emphasizing to just continue doing something you love and incorporate that in your project so that what you do can be reflected back later on in life and enjoy your own creation and effort.
Conclusion This project has definitely made me consider my priorities in life. This mural help me develop a more realistic view on what I’m actually capable of (as an artist). I’m definitely not going to do a mural again unless I know I have more time on my hands. But I’m thankful for this project because it has given me an opportunity to always prove to others and myself that I am qualified to accomplish such a tremendous task.
