Video Tech Ministry • St. John of Rochester will use our new system to records all Masses and stream them live via internet Webcast. • Our mission is to bring the word of God to people who are homebound, or cannot attend Mass due to illness, bad weather, travel or are away for the winter.
Our New Video System • We cannot show pictures of the system at this time as it is presently being installed. The control desk will be in the new Music Practice room. From there the six cameras mounted around the church will be controlled, the two screens in the sanctuary and the projectors. The system will both provide video images as needed during Mass and live stream the mass through our website. • The choice of shots and movement from one to another will be controlled by the Tech’s.
Role of the Video Techs • A two-person team manages the recording of each Sunday Mass The “director” operates the 6 cameras using each them to get the best view of each part of the Mass. The “video switch operator” switches the live output from one camera to another as Mass progresses and controls what is displayed on drop down screens.
Who can be a Video Tech? These are images of the Assumption system • Anyone 13 years of age or older with a desire to serve in this unique ministry • You don’t have to be a “techy” • Willing to learn some simple, basic techniques to operate the equipment.
We seek video techs that are: Young teens Father & son teams
We can mix and match: Young and older Brother with brother
As well as: Even brother and sister! Those more “senior”
How do new Video Techs get trained? • Sign up at the new page on SJR website: stjohnfairport.org. • Once the teams are formed there will be initial orientation sessions to our equipment. The Video Team at Assumption has offered to assist us with training and we will use their wealth of experience. • Sit with scheduled video techs during Masses until you feel comfortable. • Begin hands on when you are ready, working with a “veteran” video tech.
How are Video Techs scheduled? • Two video techs are scheduled for each weekend Mass • Schedule is set up in 4 month intervals and we always check ahead for any known conflicts you may have. • You choose the Mass time you want to work at • New video techs are always paired with an experienced video tech for as long as necessary.
We hope to offer video of baptisms, funerals and weddings. This is optional for those who are interested. Camera
Other FAQ’s • Does this count as going to Mass? Yes – You are attending Mass, just in a different part of the church. Plus you’ll find you pay even closer attention in order to manage the cameras! • What about going to communion? During communion, you just set one camera on the congregation and go downstairs to receive communion yourself. • What if I can’t make it on a date I am scheduled? We just ask that you get a sub or switch with someone for another date. We provide a roster with phone numbers and email addresses for all video techs.
We hope you’ll join our Video Tech team – a Ministry for all ages!
