INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION The Periodic Table A WebQuest.
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Introduction You are a team of scientists who want to investigate the physical and chemical properties of Group I, VII and O elements in the Periodic Table. However, there is too much information for your team to handle. Hence, you have split the task among the 5 members of your team to investigate smaller sections of the Periodic Table. Once each of your members have collected the important information required, your team will come together again in the next meeting to share your individual findings.
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Task As a member of your team, you have an important task to complete as an individual. You have numbered yourself from numbers 1 to 5. Each member has to complete their own respective numbered task as outlined below. You each have 30 minutes to complete your individual task.
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Process Once you have known your individual role, you may click on the button below based on your own numbered role. Now, you will explore the specific task of your role in your team. Individually, explore your own roles and responsibilities. Click on each role to find out what you need to do. Physical Properties of Group I Physical Properties of Group VII Chemical Properties of Group VII Physical Properties & Uses of Group O Chemical Properties of Group I • Member 1 • Member 2 Member 3 • Member 4 • Member 5 1 2 3 4 5

Answer the questions in Part I of the worksheet. • Visual information on Alkali metals • Click on the elements in Group I on the left side to know more • The Alkali Metals • Summary
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Process MEMBER 2: CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF GROUP I ELEMENTS Click on the link below to explore further about the physical properties of Group I metals. Answer the questions in Part II of the worksheet. • Chemical reactions of Alkali Metals • Click on the elements in Group I on the left side to view videos • Equations and reactivity of Alkali metals • Scroll down to: “The Reaction of Alkali Metals with Cold Water”
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Process MEMBER 3: PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF GROUP VII ELEMENTS Click on the link below to explore further about the physical properties of Group VII metals. Answer the questions in Part III of the worksheet. • Visual information on Halogens • Click on the elements in Group VII on the right side to know more • Brief description of physical properties of Halogens • Summary of physical properties of Group VII elements • Video: comparing the physical properties and reactivity
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Process MEMBER 4: CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF GROUP VII ELEMENTS Click on the link below to explore further about the physical properties of Group VII metals. Answer the questions in Part IV of the worksheet. • Brief description of displacement reactions • Read and try the simulation on displacement reaction sof halogens and halides • Detailed description of displacement reactions • Scroll down to: “The Reactivity Order and Displacement Reactions” • Do not look at: “Higher GCSE level Oxidation-Reduction Theory”
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Process MEMBER 5: PHYSICAL PROPERTIES & USES OF GROUP O ELEMENTS Click on the link below to explore further about the physical properties uses of Group O metals. Answer the questions in Part V of the worksheet. • Visual information on Noble gases • Click on the elements in Group O on the right side to know more • Properties and uses of Noble gases • Videos: More about Noble Gases • Click on the elements in Group O on the right side to watch the videos
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Evaluation Your individual contribution will be assessed according to the following rubrics together with the accuracy of your answers in the worksheet.
INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS EVALUATION CONCLUSION Conclusion Congrats! You have done your job to help your team to investigate the properties of Group I, VII and O elements. Now, you have to hand in your report to your supervisor (teacher). Your supervisor will look through and corect any errors. You will meet your team next week to shar your findings with them. Good luck!
