  1. Back to the Question “Is It Obvious?” May your summertime be a ‘fruit- filled time’ that others will know whose you are, and come to know Jesus too. In Christ’s Love, Pastor (Thanks to Gerald Whetstone, Fruitful Living, for some of these thoughts.) King of Kings Lutheran Church 57 Kingdom Drive Jasper, GA 30143 June & July 2012 “BITS” Newsletter Is It Obvious?? Keith’s Korner….. Greetings, Summer officially starts this month and we are coming into another new season. Wow, it is wonderful to see our church continuing to grow with new people. The Lord has really blessed us! I wanted to give you a little update on where we are concerning a few things. Firstly, the Call Committee headed by John Scheder has completed phone interviews with three pastors that were chosen from the initial list of fifteen candidates. This list was those recommended to us by the district as strong candidates to lead a mission church, such as ourselves. Other steps will be taken to reduce the selection to one or two finalists. Once the Committee feels that the best candidate(s) are selected, then the pastor(s) will be invited to visit our church and our community. If that goes according to plan then the Committee will bring to you a pastor(s) for you, the congregation, to vote on. When we all agree, then we will issue a call to that pastor and pray that he accepts. This is a big decision not only for us but also the pastor. Please pray for him and for our church during this process. As you might know, we do have one small weekday Bible study group in place. We have others interested in joining, so it would be a good idea to start another group soon. What the original group (of 10) has done is to host with a week day dinner followed by a Bible Pastor Knoche Notes: “The visitors walked through the orchard. The trees were laden with ripe juicy apples. The branches tilted down toward the earth from the weight of the fruit. The farmer, who has painstakingly cared for the trees over the years, smiles with delight as he leads the tour. He explains how he has carefully cared for each tree, pruning it so that it would give its best yield. There is one thing that he did not inform the group. He did not tell them that this was an apple orchard. There was no need. The orchard was filled with apple trees. The fruit made it obvious. John 15:5. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. This fact of nature was used by Jesus as a metaphor for the Christian life We cannot live the Christian life and be fruitful Christians apart from Christ any more than those limbs could live if they were torn off the tree trunk. Every branch draws its identity, its sustenance, its life from the tree. No two branches are alike and yet they are all the same. Paradoxical as it is, it is true. Every Christian is unique and yet every Christian is the same. Our identity is derived from the Vine - Jesus. We are known by the Vine. We receive our sustenance and life from the Vine”.

  2. study. I have been involved with groups that did this on Saturday mornings instead. We will have a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for those interested or you can just ask around if you prefer setting one up yourself. Carol Scheder or Gary Engel can help find study materials to make your group a success. As you surely have noticed our new sign is now in place. I would like to thank Larry Buckland for getting the job done and thank Pride Signs for doing a great job on construction and installion. The lighting for the sign is in the works. Hopefully, the costs not will exceed our expectations and we will have this completed soon. Dan Rubin has volunteered to be the sign general and change the message board on a timely basis. Thank you Dan! We have seen several people come to worship and we have fallen short on following up with these visitors. Although we are a friendly, happy and loving bunch, we seem to quake at the thought of going to visit these “Strangers”. I know I am scared to death of going to someone’s home to thank them for coming and discuss our church. I lack that self confidence. Hopefully I and others will get over this syndrome. Lynn Keck has volunteered to take on this responsibility of doing what others have not. Lynn, let’s say, has been there/done that and realizes if King of Kings wants to grow, those personal visits are the key. Thank you Lynn and I’m sure you will train the rest of us so we can do this also. Thank you all for being part of King of Kings. God bless you and your families.
