Database Structure Review Manar Soliman, UNICEF Rajesh Sharma, DevInfo Support Group Workshop on Building Country Capacity to Maintain a Central Repository of Data Amman 13 – 15 March 2007
Standards to be consideredin building a template • Sector, Class, IUS to be consistent with global DBs structure • Template to include only indicators with data • Structure definition to be unique/not repetitive, clear & significant • Indicators not to be defined by subgroups, dates or background information • MDG indicators and Goals to be imported from global DB • Use of one language at the same session and adopt full translation • Apply same format and run spell checking on the template content • Link institutions and conventions to relevant indicators • Census data can be stored in a separate database
How to implement changesStep-by-step • Produce database summary report • Use the relevant spreadsheets (e.g. “Sector” in DI5.0/ “Indicator” & “IUS” in DI4.0) • Complete the list with suggested/modified structure • Review the suggested structure and spell check • Export DB to spreadsheets and reflect agreed changes • Create a new template reflecting all the changes • Import relevant MDG indicators and MDG goals • Import from global DBs relevant sectors, classes, IUSs • Review the new template with the list • Import modified spreadsheets to the new template
